New Job Opportunity
Wang Fang is a university student who studied French for four years and speaks it very well. After graduating, she couldn’t find a suitable job for a long time, so she was a little anxious. She lives in Beijing and looks at job listings online every day, but she still hadn’t found a job she liked. Her mother told her that when looking for a job, you shouldn’t be too anxious — you should prepare more and try more.
One day, while eating at her friend’s company, Wang Fang met a person called Manager Li. Manager Li asked her, “Are you a French teacher? Your French is really good.” Wang Fang smiled and said, “I used to teach French, but I don’t teach anymore. I’m currently looking for a new job.” Manager Li was very happy to hear this and said, “Really? Our company is currently looking for someone who can speak French. Are you interested?” Wang Fang was surprised and delighted to hear this news. She immediately said, “Yes, of course I’m interested!”
Manager Li said, “Then come give it a try. Our company’s salary is pretty good, and the working environment is nice too.” Wang Fang was extremely happy to hear this, but she was also a little nervous because she had never worked at a company like this before. She thought about it and said, “Then I’ll have to trouble you for your help. Thank you for giving me this opportunity.” Manager Li smiled and said, “No problem, first go prepare your CV. Tomorrow you can come to the company for an interview.”
After returning home, Wang Fang immediately began preparing her CV. She wrote about the things she had studied and also wrote that she could speak French. She prepared very carefully because she really wanted to get this job. Her mother saw how carefully she was preparing and was also happy, saying, “You’ve prepared so well — the company is sure to like you.” Wang Fang smiled and said, “Thank you, Mom. I hope tomorrow’s interview goes smoothly.”
The next day, Wang Fang went to the company for her interview. Manager Li looked at her CV and was very satisfied. After the interview, Manager Li told her, “You can come work at our company now. Welcome aboard.” Wang Fang was overjoyed to hear this news and very grateful for Manager Li’s help. She thought that as long as you prepare carefully, you can definitely find a good job. This job-hunting experience taught her that opportunities often come very suddenly, and what matters is always keeping yourself prepared.

In China, personal connections (关系, guānxi) often play a big role in finding job opportunities. It’s common for someone to be offered a position informally, such as during a meal or casual conversation, before going through a more formal interview and CV submission process.
