Mr. Chen Checks Into the Executive Suite

Mr. Chen arrived at the hotel this afternoon. He had booked an executive suite, so he could use the executive lounge. As soon as he reached the front desk, he asked the staff, “Excuse me, what time can I check in?” The staff said he could right now.

The staff told him that his room was on the 36th floor, and the executive lounge was on the 35th floor, very close to the room. Mr. Chen was happy, because the hotel he stayed at last time didn’t have an executive lounge, and this time he could try out what it felt like.

He asked the staff, “What time does the executive lounge open?” The staff said it was open from 6:30 in the morning to 9pm. Mr. Chen then asked what there was to eat, and the staff said the self-service breakfast started at 7 and ended at 10, and many guests liked to eat breakfast there.

Mr. Chen also wanted to know what there was to drink. The staff said non-alcoholic beverages, coffee, and tea were available all day, and in the evening there was also cocktail hour, starting at 5:30 and ending at 7:30, where he could have a bit of alcohol and relax a little.

Mr. Chen thanked the staff and took his key card to the executive lounge on the 35th floor. He drank a cup of coffee and ate a few snacks, feeling very comfortable. He thought that in the future, when he traveled for business, he would want to stay at hotels with an executive lounge.

Executive Lounges in Chinese Hotels

行政酒廊 (xíngzhèng jiǔláng), the executive lounge, is a common perk at high-end hotels in China for guests staying in executive rooms or suites, or holding elite loyalty program status. Lounges typically offer free breakfast, all-day coffee and tea, and an evening cocktail hour (often called Happy Hour) with complimentary alcoholic drinks and snacks, usually between 5 and 8 pm.
