Li Ming’s daily commute across the city relies on a busy rail transit system, which becomes crucial during a rainstorm. He reflects on how the transportation hub has improved over the past decade.

The Silk Road
Li Ming’s commute route spans half the city, and he relies every day on that busy rail transit. This line is one of the city’s hubs, connecting residential and commercial areas on the east and west ends. During peak hours, the carriages are always packed with people. Li Ming has long been accustomed to this crowding; he can always find a trace of tranquility among the crowd, silently observing the city skyline outside the window.
Today’s peak hours were especially crowded because a heavy rainstorm had completely paralyzed road traffic. Li Ming’s rail transit became the only reliable way to travel. He needed to transfer to another line at the central hub station, which was the city’s largest transfer point, with streams of people and a mix of broadcast sounds and footsteps. He skillfully moved through the crowd, walking briskly in the transfer passage, silently calculating the remaining distance in his mind.
When he arrived at his destination, Li Ming breathed a sigh of relief. He remembered ten years ago, when the city did not have such developed rail transit, and commuting took twice as long. Now, this hub not only connects the subway and light rail but also links high-speed rail and buses, becoming a true transportation heart. Although peak hours are still crowded, the efficiency of transfers has greatly improved, making his commute much easier.
Walking out of the station, the rain had stopped. Li Ming looked back at the hub building, its glass curtain wall sparkling in the sunlight. He knew that tomorrow’s commute would be another familiar journey, but this rail transit had become an indispensable part of his life.
